Temple Israel to Build New Home in Bath

Renovations ready to start on Springside Drive building

An Akron temple is planning to renovate a building in Bath Township for its new home.

Temple Israel has submitted plans to renovate and expand a building it purchased at 91 Springside Drive.

The temple, which is now on Merriman Drive in Akron, plans to move to Bath once renovations are complete, Zoning Inspector Bill Funk said.

"They're ready to go," Funk said. "I'm just getting ready to issue the permit."

The temple purchased the building, located behind the Goddard School, three or four years ago with plans to eventually use it for services.

Funk said plans call for a 36,000-square-foot temple once crews have torn off portions of the building and expanded other sections.

The Board of Zoning Appeals has already granted a conditional use permit for the temple, and the Architectural Review Board has signed off on the design.
