Banned Shoppers Just Can't Stay Away from Mall: Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Fairlawn Police Department

It must be difficult to be banned from Summit Mall for a year -- as evidenced by two shoppers who didn't even make it a month.

And now both face criminal charges.

On July 18, security officers at the mall recognized an Akron woman, 23, who was banned from the mall for a year on June 27 after being arrested for disorderly conduct.

The next day, officers also spotted a man who had been told on July 1 to stay out of the mall for a year.

Both were cited for criminal trespass.

People caught shoplifting or causing other problems at Summit Mall are often banned for a year. Individual stores, like Macy's and Dillard's, also tell shoplifters they can't return.

For example, a 17-year-old girl was caught shoplifting July 20 after security officers noticed she took items into the fitting room twice, but only brought a few back out with her.

When they checked the fitting room, the items weren't there, either. They found the girl had concealed $114 worth of clothing.

She was told not to return to the store for three years.
