What Does an Easter Bonnet Look Like? Like This

Local hat maker says women will be wearing these styles for the holiday

  So does anyone still wear an Easter bonnet? Okay, no one calls it that, but some women do still want a nice new hat for Easter, according to Paula Singleton, owner of What a Great Hat! in Fairlawn. Hat-wearers lament that there aren't more fans out there. "Some of my customers complain that few women wear a hat to church," Singleton said.  This year, she has produced the two pictured hats for Easter. The cream one is a "hybrid:" a vintage hat Singleton purchased and remodeled to bring it up to date, that would now "look stunning for Easter, the Kentucky Derby or a wedding," she said. The other has a hand-blocked silk crown and free-flowing brim made from sinamay, which is a product of the banana tree. "It is a custom-made hat being worn …

Maybe you love hats. Maybe you think your head is awkward and no hat looks right on you. Either way, Paula Singleton wants to meet you. Singleton is the owner of What a Great Hat!, located in Fairlawn Town Centre above Panera. She specializes in making all types of hats by hand. "My product is unique because I'm not embellishing previously made hats," Singleton said. "I can custom make any size, color or fabric. And some customers really like being a part of that process." Singleton has been in the Fairlawn area for six years, starting out with a store on Springside Drive in Bath Township. She moved to Fairlawn Town Centre three years ago.
