The outside of the gas station is nearly complete.
The $2.2 million station has six pumps and a convenience store. Customers traveling east on West Market can make a right turn in, but have to exit at Trunko Road. Customers cannot access the gas station by making a left turn from West Market. To accommodate the increased traffic at that intersection, Giant Eagle agreed to pay for more than half of the cost to widen Trunko Road, which was finished earlier this summer.

Paving, landscaping and striping is done. Now all that's left is the signal work.
At last, Trunko Road is near completion, according to Fairlawn city officials. Crews put the finishing touches on the road Monday night by striping in the lanes. All that's left to complete is the signal work. City Engineer Nick Spagnuolo said the road will not be opened until signal work is done and tests have been completed to make sure multiple signals aren't flashing green lights. Trunko Road was closed in July to start a widening project. The road improvements will help accommodate increased traffic from a new Giant Eagle GetGo gas station at the corner of West Market Street and Trunko. Construction will start once the former Ahern's/Cavalier Cleaners building is demolished later this week. Deputy Service Director Ernie Staten expects…

Fairlawn Deputy Service Director Ernie Staten gave city council an update Monday night. The road was supposed to be open the first week of this month, but now it's looking as if it might open between the middle and end of the month, Staten said. Trunko closed on July 17. When crews arrived on construction day, they found that the utility department did not show up and mark lines like they were supposed to, Staten said. The company also marked a line wrong which led to a gas leak on Aug. 6. No work could be done at the site for 17 days, Staten said, and because Trunko Road is owned by Fairlawn, the construction crew could …
