Revere Middle School Gets 3rd in Power of the Pen District Competition

Three students qualified for the regional competition on Feb. 23.

Revere Middle School's seventh and eighth grade Power of the Pen writing teams fared well at the district competition at St. Vincent St. Mary’s High school in Akron on Jan. 12. 10 Revere students competed at the district tournament. They have beenworking for months to develop their creative writing skills in hopes of a win at the district level. For the seventh grade team, Patrick Guerreau won an individual award/medallion for 8th place. For the 8th grade team the individual winners were Serena Juchnowski with a 12th place medallion and Joci Scott with a 7th place medallion. Revere Middle School Picks Up Regional Power of the Pen Win

The regional tournament was held Saturday at Kent State University.

To say last Saturday was a successful day for the Revere Middle School Power of the Pen team would be an understatement. In a regional tournament held at Kent State University, the seventh grade team won the first place trophy for creative writing. Team members include: Sarah Blake, who finished fourth individually; Anna Gamblin, who finished 12th individually; Danielle Kakish, Maya MacKeigan-Moore, Jocie Scott and Madison Umina, who all won an 11th place individual medal.  Danielle Kakish received a Journal Award for writing the best story for the prompt: "The gold frame is beautiful but empty. Revere Middle Schools Kids Harness the Power of the Pen

The seventh and eighth grade Power of the Pen teams competed in a district competition on Jan. 7.

  Fourteen of Revere Middle School's most talented writers hit the road on Jan. 7 to compete in the Power of the Pen district competition at St. Vincent St. Mary's High School. Power of the Pen is an interscholastic writing competition for seventh and eighth grade students. When students go to a competition, they write creative pieces based on prompts given by judges, and those pieces are then scored. The team, made up of seventh and eighth graders, cleaned up, taking home several first place trophies and other awards. Eight of the students will move on to the regional competition at Kent State University on Feb. 25.
