Five Things to do this Week

A blood drive, a winter hike and the last chance for a lantern-lit tour: Just a few examples of what's going on around Fairlawn and Bath.

1. The American Red Cross is hosting the largest Blood Drive in Summit County. Blood donors who come to the Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls tomorrow will be treated to refreshments, holiday entertainment and a free goody bag. 2. Take a hike during the winter break at Fort Island Park. Children under 5 will need to be accompanied by an adult. 3. It's the last opportunity to go back in time to Christmas Eve 1861. Hale Farm and Village Receives $25,000 Contribution

The Western Reserve Historical Society decided to take 10 percent of the $250,000 it received from the state to grow Hale's Akron Community Foundation endowment fund.

Bath’s Hale Farm and Village got a boost this week when museum administrators decided to add $25,000 to its Akron Community Foundation endowment fund.  The significant donation was handed over by the Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS), which owns and operates the 19th century historical village, spokeswoman Shari Kochman said.  The money comes from a quarter-million dollar appropriation that the Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission gave to WRHS earlier this year to help fund the preservation project and its 32 historic structures, she said.  “Given Hale Farm’s commitment to preserve and share the early history of the Western Reserve, the Historical Society decided it was appropriate to invest a portion of these state funds for the …
