Theft Nets Man a Lifetime Ban From Dillard's Stores

The following information was supplied by the Fairlawn Police Department.

An unemployed Akron man has been “banned for life” from all Dillard’s stores after getting busted for shoplifting $204 worth of clothing from Dillard’s South at Summit Mall. On Aug. 6, an off-duty Fairlawn Police officer working security at the store watched as the man, 47, entered a changing room with a number of men’s garments and an empty bag. After exiting the booth, the suspect left the store with what appeared to be clothing concealed in the bag, police said. The officer stopped the suspect outside the store, where he admitted to taking the men’s clothing items valued at $204. The man was arrested, charged with misdemeanor theft and released with a summons to appear in Akron Municipal Court. The clothing was retained by the store, …

Shoplifter Recently Banned from Dillard's Strikes Again

Information provided by the Fairlawn Police Department.

An Akron man was banned from Dillard's on Feb. 19 for stealing $369 of clothing, Fairlawn police said. He was caught again on Feb. 22 walking through the store with more than $1,500 of clothing. Police said the man walked into the store with nothing, but was seen leaving the store with a white shopping bag. Police arrested the man and charged him with two counts of criminal trespassing, using criminal tools and theft. He was taken to the Summit County Jail.

Man Flees Police at Dillard's, Found Hiding in Pickup Truck Bed

Information provided the Fairlawn Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

On Feb. 7, a 20-year-old Akron man grabbed a hooded sweatshirt off a Dillard's rack, put it on and attempted to leave the store, Fairlawn police said. A security guard stopped the man outside the store, the man pushed him and ran off through the parking lot. The suspect was later found hiding in the bed of a truck at Chase Bank, police said. The sweatshirt was valued at $55.

Akron Man Steals Watches, Cologne from Dillard's

Information provided by the Fairlawn Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

On Jan. 19, Dillard's security spotted a 59-year-old Akron man taking watches off counters and concealing them in a purse he was carrying, according to Fairlawn police. He then walked around a the sales desk and put Gucci cologne in the purse and attempted to walk out the door. Security stopped the man and collected the items, valued at $336, police said. The man was released with a summons and banned from the store.

$900 Worth of Counterfeit Bills Spent at Dillard’s

The following information was supplied by the Fairlawn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A manager at Dillard’s at Summit Mall called Fairlawn Police on Dec. 6 regarding the loss of $790 worth of merchandise paid for with nine counterfeit $100 bills – a transaction that cost the store $1,690 in cash and merchandise. The manager said that between 4 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. Dec. 5, a Dillard’s sales associate sold 10 items of fragrances and cosmetics with a combined value of $790 to a woman who paid with $900 in cash. An inspection after the sale was completed and the customer had left the store revealed the bills were counterfeit. The sales associate said the female customer was about 30 to 35 years old, had an acne-scarred face and spoke Spanish while on her cell phone. The woman’s hair color was unknown, as she was wearing a hat.
