Fairlawn Employee Unions Negotiate 2.25 Percent Raise in 2013
Bargaining units in the police and fire departments successfully negotiated the raise.
After a couple months of negotiations, Fairlawn has reached a bargaining agreement with all of the city's unions, according to Mayor William Roth. In 2013, all unions, including police, fire, service, etc., will get a 2.25-percent raise, said Law Director Ed Riegler. The unions have agreed to maintain current benefits for 2013, said council President Russ Sharnsky. This is the last year of a three-year deal to negotiate a wage increase only. Next year the contracts will have to be fully negotiated, Sharnsky added. At the Dec. 3 council meeting, members heard the first reading of an ordinance that also gave a 2.25 percent raise to employees not in a union.
