A trip to Summit Mall turned into a nightmare for a 53-year-old Brecksville man after someone stole his wallet from his fitting room, according to a Fairlawn police report. The man went into Jos. A. Bank on Jan. 4 to try on some pants. He went into a fitting room and later walked out leaving his jeans with his wallet inside. In the brief moment he was gone, someone took his wallet, the report stated. The man noticed his wallet was missing between 8 and 8:30 p.m. By 8:47 p.m. the thief had made three big-ticket purchases using three different credit cards at Target. The purchases were for $318 (at 8:47 p.m.), $415 (at 8:50 p.m.) and $457 (at 8:54 p.m.). The suspect tried to use another card for a purchase but it was declined, the report …

On Dec. 28, employees in Summit Mall's Express store saw a woman who was previously banned in 2009 shopping around, according to a Fairlawn police report. The 21-year-old Akron woman was approached by mall security and the officer saw stolen clothing sticking out from under her clothes, the report stated. The woman had managed to stuff $501 of clothes under hers. Police charged the woman with theft and criminal trespass. She was taken to the Summit County Jail and banned from Summit Mall, the report stated.

On Dec. 29, a Macy's employee put $400 on one gift card and $300 on another without putting any money in the register, a Fairlawn police report said. The employee, an 18-year-old from Akron, then made several purchases in the store, totaling $466, the report stated. She later took the clothes to her friend's house in Akron to be sold. When management brought the woman in for questioning, she admitted to the theft but said she did it because she felt "cheated on her paycheck," the report stated. Police charged the woman with theft.

On Dec. 12, the general manager at the Hampton Inn in Bath Township called to report a theft of hotel merchandise, according to a Bath police report. The manager told police someone booked two hotel rooms on the Internet and a man with a different name came in to stay in the rooms. The man told the manager his father booked the rooms for him, the report stated. At 11:30 the same day the man left the hotel and it was discovered that he broke both rooms' TV stands and the televisions had been taken. He also stole the bedding from one of the king size beds, the report stated. The items were valued at $1,900, said Chief Michael McNeely. No one has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing. On Wednesday, a Medina Road family called to report someone had forcibly entered their home and stole all the presents from under their Christmas tree, said Bath Chief Michael McNeely. Some time between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., burglars broke into the home and began to gather jewelry and miscellaneous items in a pillow case, a report reads. The theives even unwrapped a couple presents and left behind a box of chocolates that had been wrapped. McNeely said the presents were valued at $1,000. Thieves made off with the presents and two television sets but left the pillow case with the jewelry behind, as well as a popcorn wrapper that police took in for fingerprinting. The Summit Mall Sunglass Hut store called Fairlawn police on Dec. 10 to report a shoplifter in custody, according to a report. Employees at the store accused a 19-year-old Lakewood man of grabbing a pair of sunglasses and leaving the store, the report stated. The man said he didn't steal the glasses, it was his friend and he knew where they were. The man tried to get a hold of his friend on the phone, but he wouldn't answer, so the Lakewood man lead police to his friend's car. Police could see the glasses inside the car and the man gave police permission to search it, the report said. Two Montrose stores reported finding fake $100 bills in their cash drawers in the same week, according to a Bath Township police report. On Dec. 3, Mustard Seed Market employees called to report the fake bill, a report stated. Later that week, on Dec. 8, the manager at Shell True North found one in her cash drawer. Both bills were sent to the United States Secret Service, the report stated. Police Chief Michael McNeely said he suspects these cases are linked to the case at Macy's in Summit Mall, where police arrested a woman with 13 counterfeit 100s. In each case, the suspect made a small purchase and paid with a $100 bill to get the change back, McNeely said. Detectives are investigating.

A 45-year-old Akron woman was seen stuffing clothing down her pants at Walmart, according to a Fairlawn police report. On Dec. 3, the woman stole $426 of clothing before walking out of the store, the report stated. Copley police caught up with the woman on White Pond Drive and she admitting to stealing the clothing. The woman told police she stole them to "support her drug habit," the report stated. Police charged the woman with theft.

A 19-year-old Akron woman was seen shoplifting in Pacific Sunwear in Summit Mall and tried to get away through Dillard's, according to a Fairlawn police report. When a mall security guard approached the woman as she was leaving, she began yelling and ran through the Dillard's parking lot, the report stated. The security guard caught up with the woman in the lot and the shoplifter charged the guard a small physical fight started until another security guard intervened, the report stated. When police officers took the woman away, she told the guard, "I'm coming back for you white (expletive), you ain't safe," the report stated. A Toledo woman walked into the Shell True North gas station on Dec. 3 and attempted to reach into the cash drawer while making a purchase, according to a Bath Township police report. Alaysha Williams, 21, became aggressive and began reaching over the counter, the report stated. When a manager saw her, she told Williams she wasn't allowed to reach for the drawer and Williams threatened to punch her. While at the police station, Williams admitted she was trying to short-change the cashier. This is the second arrest Bath police have made in a short-change scam. Read the first report here.
