If you have not received a tax bill, call 330-643-2588 before the deadline of July 13 to avoid the statutory 10 percent penalty. You can visit http://fiscaloffice.summitoh.net to print your own tax bill. Homeowners who are unable to pay second half taxes can enroll in the Tax Installment Program and make monthly installment payments. Taxes must be current; the deadline to sign up is July 13, 2012. The county is looking for restitution for allegedly neglecting to pay fees and taxes over a six-year period.
Summit County Prosecuting Attorney Sherri Bevan Walsh said a complaint was filed in Summit County's Court of Common Pleas against Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, widely known as “Freddie Mac,” on behalf of Russell M. Pry, executive of Summit County, and Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise. The complaint requests that Freddie Mac be ordered to pay restitution to Summit County for allegedly neglecting to pay fees and taxes over a six-year period. From 2002 through December 31, 2008, Freddie Mac failed to pay the fees or transfer taxes on more than 3,500 real estate transactions, according to the prosecutor. The deadline for Summity County taxpayers to file a DTE Form 1--a complaint against real property values--is Monday, April 2, according to a press release from Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise. According to the fiscal officer, The Board of Revision hears complaints relating to the valuation of property. Taxpayers who feel their property values are too high have the opportunity to file a complaint and appeal to the board for property value reduction. The complaint form for tax year 2011, which is required to be signed, dated and notarized, must physically be delivered to one of the following locations by 4 p.m. on April 2, 2012: An April 2 U.S. postmark, by state law, is not acceptable, according to the release. Dog owners should renew their licenses before Jan. 31 deadline to avoid late fee.
It's that time of year; It's time to renew your dog's license. As of Dec. 1, the 2012 dog license was made available to purchase at the Fiscal Office Service Department and at local vendors such as the Bath Veterinary Clinic and License Bureau in Fairlawn. You can find other locations here. And in response to the many requests made by dog owners during renewal time, this year the Summit County's Fiscal Office is offering online payments. The cost to renew a dog license is $14; local vendors are required by law to add a 75 cents service charge. Dog owners should look for their renewal applications in the mail. I filed a few months ago right after we bought our house. We got a letter saying the value went up. We told them what we paid for the house and they adjusted it down to that number. I just found out that our home would be exactly half the price if it were in New Haven, Indiana (a Fort Wayne suburb) where I went to high school.
