Thief Confuses Several Montrose Cashiers, Claims Short Changed

Information provided by the Bath Township Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

On Dec. 3, a Cincinnati man went into several Montrose area stores, made a small purchase and tried to confuse the cashiers into thinking he was short-changed, according to a Bath Township police report. Robin Monfort, 34, went into Strickland's, purchased a bottle of water and paid with $20. When the cashier handed Monfort his change, he confused the cashier by saying he was short changed which led him to get all his money back plus $7, the report stated.  Monfort was also successful in confusing cashiers at Shell True North, Citco, Circle K and Speedway gas stations, totaling a loss of $60, the report said. Suspicious Woman Scams Church-Goer for Prescription Money

Information provided by the Bath Township Police Department.

As a 77-year-old walked out of Bath Church on Nov. 4, she was approached by a woman whom she didn't recognize, according to a Bath Township police report. The suspicious woman said, "You probably don't recognize me because of my short hair, and I haven't been to church in a year, but I need $40 for a prescription medicine," according to the report. The suspect then walked around to the Bath woman's passenger door and got in the car. She told the woman she asked the minister for a gift card, but that he didn't give her one.  The Bath woman gave the woman $15 and the woman thanked her and said she'd pay her back.
