Residents Say They'll Fight New McDonald's in Fairlawn

Traffic is already a nightmare at Shiawassee and West Market, crowd says

  Residents near a proposed McDonald's restaurant at the corner of Shiawassee Avenue and West Market Street left an informational meeting Tuesday night unconvinced the project is right for their neighborhood. About 35 Fairlawn residents, most from Shiawassee and adjoining streets, listened as franchise owner John Blickle explained that the fast food restaurant would not increase traffic or crime in the area. "We do not generate traffic," Blickle told the crowd at the Fairlawn Kiwanis Community Center. "We live off the existing (passing) traffic." Blickle, whose company, Rubber City Arches, owns 20 area McDonald's restaurants, also said his businesses are kept neat and clean, and do not increase crime in a neighborhood. "We do not have a …

Pita Pit Adds Healthy Option to West Market Street Fast Food Options

The restaurant will open this week.

If you're looking for a healthier fast food alternative in the Montrose area, you'll soon be able to add Pita Pit to your favorites list. Pita Pit, founded in Canada, will open in the former Bombay Grill store front on West Market Street Jan. 30. It's in the same plaza as G & G Fitness and Best Cuts.  The restaurant features Lebanese-style pitas that can be filled with savory meats, a variety of veggies, cheeses and sauce. Fairlawn will have Middle Eastern Restaurant

Aladdins Eatery is in construction at West Market Plaza.

Aladdin's Eatery, will open a restaurant sometime this spring in the West Market Plaza (next to Panera) at 3879 Medina Road, according to Tina Lattous, a representative at the company's corporate office in Lakewood. The restaurant is known for its hummous, tabouli, falaffel and other Mediterranian dishes made from fresh ingredients. The Fairlawn location will be the second in the greater Akron area and the 12th in Northeast Ohio.
