Want to Track Santa? There's an App for That

NORAD website and smartphone apps lets you follow St. Nick's every move.

No need to check out the skies of Fairlawn or Bath on Christmas Eve to see if Santa Claus is really coming to town. You can track the Jolly Old Elf the high-tech way. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is charged with keeping the United States and Canada safe from dangers originating from the sky or space. For Christmas, however, the Colorado-based government agency adds one more important task to its daily list of duties. The agency will again provide its Official Santa Tracker that marks The Big Man's every move as he makes his way throughout both hemispheres. In the "old days" before the Internet, children around the world had to fall asleep on Christmas Eve just trusting that Santa Claus would show up at their house in the middle of the night to fulfill their wishes. Not so for today's web-savvy kids. There are variety of websites available to track the Jolly Old Elf's journey around the globe using modern technology, allowing children to pinpoint his exact location at any given time. But the most trusted site – Norad Tracks Santa – is operated by the governments of the United States and Canada.
