Happy Groundhog Day! Peacefully Exist With our Wild Neighbors

Here's how to co-exist with our spring prognosticators.

While Chief Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil will make headlines again on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is encouraging people to celebrate the day by learning more about our wild neighbors and ways to peacefully coexist. As Phil comes out of his hole after a long winter sleep, groundhogs everywhere are reemerging in gardens and yards throughout the country.   “People are excited to see Phil on Feb. 2, but within weeks, some homeowners will complain about groundhogs eating flowers and garden vegetables,” Laura Simon, field director of Wildlife & Habitat Protection community programs for The HSUS, said. “With the right tools and a little tolerance, people can easily discourage unwanted groundhog activity in…

Forget Punxsutawney Phil. These Mustard Seed Market & Cafe shoppers know how to celebrate whether there's six more weeks of winter or an early spring. In honor of Groundhog Day, Mustard Seed asked its customers to dress up (from head to toe) as a groundhog. If they did, they'd get 15 percent off groceries. Get Your Groundhog On at Mustard Seed Market

Dress up like a groundhog on Thursday and get a discount on your groceries.

In honor of Groundhog Day, Mustard Seed Market & Cafe is asking its customers to dress up as that famous groundhog to get a discount on groceries. Note: It doesn't matter if you see your shadow, the discount still applies. Head to the Mustard Seed from noon to 4 p.m. for free samples and save 15 percent if you're wearing your Punxsutawney Phil gear, and it has to be from head to toe. If you're not daring enough to dress up, simply bring a picture of a groundhog and save 10 percent at the register.
