Bath Man's Property Catches Fire Again, Months After Garage Fire

Part of Cleveland-Massillon Road is still closed while crews finish at the scene.

A Copley man driving home from work on Cleveland-Massillon Road was in the right place at the right time. "I saw smoke as I was coming down the valley there," said Eric Lisowski. "I don't know what made me turn around to look, but I did and I saw flames." The house at 1340 N. Cleveland-Massillon Road, across from R.B. Stout, caught fire some time around 3:50 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters on the scene think it may be a chimney fire, but crews are still at the scene. A portion of Cleveland-Massillon Road is still closed as crews work to clean up the scene. "I pulled my car up the driveway and ran up to their door and started banging as hard as I could," Lisowski said. "No one was coming to the door and I was yelling." The homeowner, his wife …

Bath Township Horse Show Opens Saturday

Annual fire department fundraiser brings hundreds of horses and riders to the township.

The Bath Township Fire Department has equipment to rival many a big city agency. The township's state-of-the art gear includes: high pressure breathing air compressor, scuba equipment, uniforms to protect firefighters from blood-born pathogens, fire trucks capable of carrying 5,000 gallons of water, heavy duty smoke ventilation fans and high wattage portable lighting. Much of the cost for equipment, maintenance and training necessary keep firefighters safe is at least partially paid for by Bath Fire Department Horse Show. The horse show has been an annual event for the last 62 years. It is the project Bath Fire Department Inc., a non-profit fund-raising agency. Fire Departments Merger a Success

Approaching the five-year mark, the merged Stony Hill fire station continues to save money for residents

While many communities talk about combining forces to provide police, fire and emergency medical services, often the idea begins and ends at the study stage. But for Bath and Copley townships, as their idea approaches nearly five years in practice, Stony Hill Fire Station No. 2 is a working model of how to do it right. The single station -- manned by two townships -- has cut costs and reduced response time to as little as 90 seconds in some cases," said Bath Township Fire Chief Jim Paulett. According to a Bath Township audit, expenditures for the station were $192,524. Township Administrator William Snow said the 2009 figure represents more than a 50 percent savings.
