A witness asked police to check out a group of suspicious juveniles outside a building on South Miller Road April 27. Officers determined the kids were just playing and not doing anything wrong. But the older brother of one of the kids arrived on the scene -- and while he wasn't doing anything wrong, either, he had in the past, a report said. Police said there was an active warrant from Copley police for the 21-year-old for failing to pay fines stemming from an assault case. He was arrested and turned over to Copley. A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of an Akron man after police identified the passenger in the car April 28. A report said police ran a check on the driver and found he was the subject of a protection order. And who had filed it? The woman in the passenger seat. Officers verified the order was still in effect, the arrested the man. He was taken to Summit County Jail.

A Sandrun Parkway man who was trying to help out a family member actually lined the pockets of some con artists. In a variation of the common "grandson" scam, the man believed a caller who said his nephew was in trouble in Bolivia. The caller on April 8 said he was from the American Embassy in Bolivia, and the man's nephew was in jail there. He needed $4,200 to get out of jail, the caller said. The man called back and said he would need an additional $7,200. He warned the Fairlawn man not to tell anyone about the incident. The money would be refunded later, the caller said. On April 15, the victim mailed two money orders to Bolivia. He later called his nephew and learned he was not in any trouble -- or in Bolivia. The victim is …

Employees at The Buckle at Summit Mall got suspicious of two woman who came into the store April 12 carrying a bag from Charlotte Russe. A report said the employees watched as the women put a $99 pair of jeans and shorts valued at $128 into the bag and left the store. The women were stopped by mall security, who found the Charlotte Russe bag had been lined with aluminum foil and duct tape to defeat the security sensors at the store's doorway. The women, both from Akron, were charged with theft.

A Parma man who has reportedly been stalking an Akron woman since 1997 is at it again, according to a police report. The woman and her husband went to Fairlawn police April 4 after the suspect allegedly slipped some information and photos of the woman's car under the door of the husband's office in Fairlawn. The pictures and note indicated the wife had met a man at a motel. The wife immediately suspected a set-up by the Parma man, who she said she has seen in the area. Police said there are documented complaints about the man stalking people in Fairlawn, Copley, Lyndhurst and Akron. The couple will pursue getting a protection order, the report said.

A man used a note written on a napkin to rob a cash register at Walmart about 1 a.m. April 5, according to police. A cashier at the store told police a man in her line kept letting people go ahead of him until no one was behind him. Then he walked to the register, pulled a crumpled napkin out of his coat pocket and set it in front of her. The note said "Act normal. Empty the drawer quietly." The woman handed over $762 and asked if he wanted the change, too. The robber said he did not, although in less-polite terms. He walked out of the store. No weapon or vehicle were seen, police said.

An Akron man faces theft charges after security officers at Dillard's found him hiding a second pair of pants and a hat in his pants. A report said the man was seen going into a fitting room March 26 with several items, but coming out with fewer. When they stopped him for questioning, they found an extra pair of pants and a hat hidden in the pants he was wearing, a report said. He also had an extra shirt on. Stolen Wallet Leads to Shopping Spree A Ghent Road store owner told police someone stole her wallet from in front of the cash register March 26. By the time she realized it, the thief had already used her credit cards twice at Victoria's Secret for $363, once at Macy's for $150, at a gas station for $64 and for $738 at Sam's Club. …

Employees at Macy's spotted a woman carrying six Ralph Lauren coats to a vehicle about 3:15 p.m. March 27, but couldn't stop her before she drove off. The coats were valued at $990. But Brecksville police called Fairlawn officers a short time later, sayin they had stopped a car on I-77 containing two East Cleveland woman and a large quantity of clothing apparently stolen from Macy's and Dillard's. The items were returned to the stores. The women face theft charges.

A 63-year-old Akron woman faces two charges after allegedly stopping at Croghan Park for a drink March 23. Police got a call about 9:20 a.m. from someone who said it looked like a woman was drinking wine in her vehicle at the park. Officers, who noted they could smell an alcoholic beverage in the Jeep, questioned the woman, who denied the allegation. She said she had been drinking a diet soda, which she tossed in a nearby trash can. When police checked, though, they found a 1.5-liter wine bottle. The woman eventually admitted to drinking in her running vehicle, and also showed police another wine bottle in the Jeep. She was charged with open container and violating Fairlawn's park rules.

Security officers at Summit Mall called in police March 23 when they noticed four unattended children in the playground area about 7:25 p.m. Also, a 2-year-old boy was found wandering alone in Macy's, a report said. When police started talking to the children, a woman approached and started yelling to the kids. She refused to provide police with indentification and was arrested for obstructing official business, the report said. Once she was identified, police found she had a warrant for failing to appear in court regarding a Broadview Heights charge. The woman, 22, of Akron was turned over to Broadview Heights police and banned from the mall for a year. The kids were released to their grandmother.
