Help Make After Prom a Success

Popular event is set for May 25

  The Copley High School PTSA will again sponsor the 2013 After Prom party for seniors and their guest from 11 a.m. May 25 to 4 a.m. May 26. After Prom provides an alcohol- and drug-free event immediately following the prom. All seniors are invited, regardless of whether they attend Prom. The party will again feature inflatables, games, senior gift bags and card games. It will also have the traditional senior photo wall. Parents are asked to send copies of photos of their senior student throughout their childhood and teen years to be displayed on the wall. Donations are being sought to help defray the costs. Sponsorship levels are $30, $50, $75 and $100; checks should be payable to CHS PTSA and sent to CHS PTSA, 3807 Ridgewood Rd., Copley…

Fairlawn School Officials Recognize Students of the Month

Five students were recognized by the Copley-Fairlawn Board of Education for their standout academic achievements in February.

At its March 19 meeting, the Copley-Fairlawn Board of Education recognized five students for their academic excellence in February. Here are the students of the month: The Board also named Madison Myers, of Copley High School, athlete of the month.

Copley Senior A Candidate for Presidential Scholars Program

Alan Du is senior class president at Copley-Fairlawn High School.

Remember Alan Du? Fairlawn-Bath Patch talked to him last October after learning he scored a perfect on the ACT. Alan was also named Homecoming King and is the president of his senior class at Copley-Fairlawn High School. Now he can add this to his list of accomplishments: Alan has been selected as a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of the nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors, according to its website. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. Each year, up to 141 students are named as Presidential …

Copley-Fairlawn Student Charged with Assault After In-School Brawl

Information provided by the Copley Police Department.

Police were called to Copley High School on Nov. 7 after a fight broke out during the school day, according to a Copley police report. The aggressor got upset after the victim accused him of throwing beads, according to the report. The teacher asked the boy to calm down after taking him out into the hallway. After class, the boy waited for the victim to walk out of the classroom, knocked him down and started punching him in the head, according to the report. A student stopped the fight.  Both boys are 14 years old. The aggressor was suspended for 10 days and Copley Police charged him with delinquency by means of assault. The victim told police his head was sore but he was OK.

'Curious Savage' Opens at Copley High School

The play runs Nov. 15 through Nov. 17.

If you're in the mood for a comedy, head over to Copley High School Nov. 15 through Nov. 17 to see the students perform "Curious Savage," by John Patrick. The story follows Mrs. Savage after the death of her husband and the inheritance she claims. She wants to find the best way to use $10 million, in spite of her grown-up stepchildren trying to get their hands on it. The stepchildren, knowing that the widow's wealth is now in negotiable securities, and seeing they cannot get hold of it, commit Mrs. Savage to a "sanatorium" hoping to "bring her to her senses." Head to the play to see how Mrs. Savage adapts to her new surroundings. The play starts at 7:30 p.m. in the CHS Auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door.  Director Maggie Steffen said …

Copley Senior Grabs Perfect Score on ACT

Alan Du shares his secrets to success.

Copley High School senior Alan Du walked away from taking his ACT test feeling like he could have gotten a pretty good score — maybe even a perfect 36. He knew the odds of getting a 36 were pretty crazy, but just maybe... Turns out Alan was the only student in Copley High to score a perfect 36 this year on his ACT and he couldn't be more pleased. According to collegeapps.com, "Anyone scoring a 34, 35 or 36 is among the top 1 percent of test-takers in the country."
