Fairlawn Will Likely Lose Walmart to Neighbor
Mayor insists his city is better store site
Mayor William Roth got the news that his city would lose its Walmart and Sam's Club stores 24 hours before he was due at a public meeting to discuss the potential move of one of Fairlawn's top five taxpayers. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. corporate officials have decided to build a new, larger Walmart superstore and Sam's Club, complete with a gas station, but its ultimate location is not a done deal. Roth said Wal-Mart representatives who visited him Dec. 1, told him the company is pursuing its plan to build in Copley Township, but the company would not rule out an alternate site farther west on state Route 18.
