Give Christmas Trees a New Life as Mulch

Fairlawn residents can recycle trees at compactor site; Bath residents can do so through MetroParks.

Those live Christmas trees lovingly decorated by area residents to serve as centerpieces for holiday celebrations are now drying up and on their way to being evicted from their warm homes. But through recycling, the trees can play a new role in nature as mulch. In Fairlawn, former Christmas trees are starting to pile up at the The Andrew E. Sombati Compactor/Recycle Center. By this weekend, said compactor employee Dick Engum, there will be countless trees heaped up at the site. Engum said trees cleaned of their decorations can be deposited in the brush bin at the compactor site on South Smith Road between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily, excluding New Year’s Day.
