This year's speaker is retired Major General Dan Hahn.
The Revere High School marching band will provide patriotic music, there will be singing and information on the Pledge of Allegiance before retired Major General Dan Hahn speaks at this year's Memorial Day observance in Bath Township. The event is on May 27 at noon at the Bath Veteran's Memorial Park at the corners of W. Bath and N. Cleveland-Massillon Roads. Emma Weihe, a Revere High School student, will sing prior to learning about the Pledge of Allegiance from fourth grade student Owen Desberg. Hahn, who has 36 years of service, will address the audience. Revere High School's graduation is on June 2 at 11 a.m. at the Akron Civic Center and after that, several parties will be planned to laud student's accomplishments. After all the preparations are done for the party, the Bath Township Police Department is asking party planners to do one more thing — register the party. The Bath, Richfield, Copley and Fairlawn police departments are providing a courtesy service for persons hosting parties in their jurisdiction for graduating seniors, according to the Bath Township police department website. Several local students earned scholarship money in the Maltz Museum Stop the Hate Essay Contest.
A Copley-Fairlawn Middle School student was among the 10 finalists for their essays to stop hatred, as part of the 5th annual Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage Stop the Hate: Youth Speak Out! contest. Caroline O'Brien will go to New York to receive Gold Key honor
Revere High School senior Caroline O’Brien has won a National Gold Key Award for her colored pencil drawing, “Charlette’s Web.” She will travel to New York City for a ceremony at Carnegie Hall on May 31, at which actress and producer Sarah Jessica Parker will be the keynote speaker. Caroline is among 300 young artists from across the country selected to have her work displayed at the Scholastic Nation Art Exhibition in New York. More than 200,000 creative works from students in grades 7-12 were entered. Caroline won a Gold Key in regional competition before her piece was entered in the national contest, where 1,600 gold and silver medalists were chosen.
