UPDATE TO ARTICLE IN FAIRLAWN-BATH PATCH BY JENETTE COX

In August' 2013 Jenette CoxN a mother of a Veteran and Coply, Ohio resident attended a information meeting at the Valor Home of Akron Thrift Store. The Director, David Peacock, explained to the group who were made up of local service dog groups for Veterans how happy they were to be working with them and looking forward to having a service dog at the Valor Home if it was needed by a Veteran staying there. I can tell you that I am so very happy to find your blog Mrs. Cox because I am in need !. I grew up in Bath Twp all my life, except my military service, I worked in Bath, Fairlawn and Copley and even worked for the Fairlawn Fire Dept. Which as everyone know services all three in times of need. I served in the US Army and the 101st Airborne DivisionN served overseas and after many years of success have fallen on hard times due to my Post Tramatic Stress Disorder. I currently am living at the Valor Home in Akron, Ohio, its a transitional housing home for veterans that are between housing for many different reasons. I was prescribed a service dog by the Veterans Administration Hospital, Wade Park Campus but I am having a hard time getting it thru the doors of a VA Housing unit, run by civilian contract by VA thru the Family Counseling Services of Ohio based in Ravenna, Ohio. They are putting restrictions on the service dog that are not allowed by VA or Federal standards of the Disability Act for disabled persons and service dogs. Frankly, they just do not want it here because they Director does not like dogs !! I was told I would never be allowed to have it here and when I complained, it was implied I was here and my spot could be given away, when I went to the Corporate Offices, they ofcourse said they will do everything to comply and help me, after two months they have down nothing and even deter the one group that was trying to help me by providing the dog, training and supplies. Veterans keep loosing more and more benefits daily and its our government that is doing it ! What's a Veteran to do when the people who are suppose to help him don't ?
