Crown Point Hosts 'Taste of Earth'

Dinner and auction is set for Aug. 17

Crown Point Ecology Center’s 15th Annual Taste of Earth Dinner and Auction is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 on the grounds of Crown Point, 3220 Ira Road.

The evening, hosted by VIP hosts Virgil and Shawn Dominic, Jeff and Julie Kerr, Steve and Cathy Leuenberger, and Richard and Mary Anne Krejci, begins with appetizers, silent auction and live music by The Cuyahoga Valley Frackers, followed by dinner and an oral auction. 

Loretta Haugh of West Akron and Christine Thomas of Bath are this year’s event chair and co-chair, respectively.

Oral auction items include one-of-a-kind experiences like an evening in a Stone Cottage in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park to entertain 12 guests; skeet shooting adventure and steak cookout, David Norton fused glass, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad excursion for 18 guests; a clam bake for 12 in the historic Valentine Farm Barn; an on-air Texas Hold’em Poker Session for eight; a dinner party for six at the Bath home of Pat Pacenta; a weekend stay at a Chautauqua cottage; a Thirty Dog Brewing Company tour, tasting and dinner; a ride on the Spirit of Goodyear blimp for two; a Progressive Field loge to enjoy a night of Indian’s baseball; and many more.

“We have an exciting night planned with great food, prepared with fresh Crown Point vegetables, wonderful music and many unique auction items all amidst the serene setting of Crown Point,” Haugh said.

In addition, raffle tickets for The Taste of Earth Raffle will be sold at the event and at Crown Point prior to the event. Tickets for the raffle are $10 each, 3 for $20 or 8 for $50. Three raffle prizes will be drawn, including A Year of Fine Dining or twelve $100 gift certificates to upscale Akron and Cleveland restaurants such as Ken Stewart's Lodge, Lannings, Flemings, Hyde Park, Beau's Grill, Michelangelo’s, Don's Pomeroy House, Bistro on Main, Gasoline Alley and Washington’s Place; a three bedroom deluxe condo for the week of Feb. 1-8, 2014 at the Shipyard Plantation in Hilton Head, South Carolina; and a gift basket of gift certificates to various local casual and family restaurants in the area. 

The winning tickets will be drawn at the event, but winners do not need to be present. Tickets are available in Crown Point’s administrative offices Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Dinner will include beef tenderloin prepared with vegetables from the Crown Point certified organic gardens served outdoors in the country air. Cost is $135 per person. Reservations may be made at 330-668-8992 or online at crownpt.org.

Funds raised will benefit Crown Point’s general fund and the pursuit of its mission and principles of sustainability, community, justice and spirituality.
