Revere Advances Several Swimmers To State

Girls' Gresser, Harris, Kimberly, Poitinger each qualify for two events; boys' Davis, Fenton make cut.

The swim team had six girls finish in the top six of the Division II district meet Friday (Feb. 18) at Cleveland State's Robert Busbey Natatorium to grab a third-place team finish while the boys had two in the top-six to finish 12th.

Off to the Division II state meet at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton for Revere with an automatic qualification that goes to the top-three finishers in each event is , who was third in the 500-yard free with a time of 5 minutes, 10.11 seconds.

Just short of an automatic qualification, but earning at-large berths for Revere include Katie Kimberly. The senior finished fourth in the 100 free with 57.80 and was selected to compete in the 100 breaststroke based on her district time of 1:07.98.

Emma Gresser, who was fifth in the 100 fly in 59.72, also qualified for state with a  2:12.95 finish in the 200 IM. Maggie Harris, who took sixth in the 50 free with a 24.57, qualified 22nd overall with a time of 53.81 in the 100 free.

Alex Pointinger looked for a second state qualification by taking sixth in the 200 free with a 1:54.73.

In the 200 medley relay, Revere place fourth as Poitinger, Kimberly, Gresser and Harris were clocked in 1:52.16, nearly six seconds behind event winner Hawken (1:46.27).

Overall, the Revere girls had 176 points, well-behind first place Hawken (469 points).

The Revere boys had a pair of swimmers finish in the top-six of their events as Adam Fenton was fifth in the 100 free with a 49.61 and Jon Davis was sixth in the 50 free in 22.57. In the team race, Revere scored 60.5 points as University School swam to first with 540 points.

The entire field for the state meet including at-large choices will be announced today by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

The Division II state championship meet begins on Wednesday with diving and continues at 5 p.m. Thursday with prelims. Finals start Friday at 5 p.m.
