Three Revere School Board Incumbents Won't Seek Re-election

Hoover, Bonacci, Forcina bow out of race.

Three incumbent members of the Revere Board of Education are not seeking re-election this year. The names of Board President Bill Hoover and members Joe Forcina and Mario Bonacci were not listed in the Summit County Board of Election filings released Thursday. Wednesday was the deadline to file for election.

The terms for board members George Seifert and Claudia Hower are not up this year.

are Dana Appel of Oxbow Road, Ronald Bucci of Bent Branch Court., Thomas Kelley of Granger Road, Kary S. Lewis of Forestridge Drive, Michael J. Paxton of Westview Drive, Diana M. Sabitsch of Appian Way and Mark Warner of Motz Drive.

Sabitsch has previously served on the school board, according to Terry Snow of the Revere Local Schools administration.

Superintendent Randy Boroff said he was sorry to see three board members who hired him two years ago leave. "I have a sense of loyalty to each one of them," Boroff said, "Yet I have to respect their decision.

"Those were personal decisions that each candidate or each board member has made," Boroff said. "I know that each one of them has a passion for this district and has served this district well during their terms."

Boroff said the difficulty of running a school district in a struggling economy might have been a factor in their decisions. Voters in May passed a levy after a contentious campaign by supporters and opponents, and the board recently imposed a contract with the teachers association that the association says is invalid.

Boroff said he is concerned about losing the knowledge of the three combined at one time.

"You always worry about that," Boroff said. "But the other side of the story is maybe you get some fresh viewpoint that brings new ideas and new approaches to things. I'm sure there's a happy medium somewhere."

The board members  were not immediately available for comment.
