Revere Superintendent Installed as Leader of Statewide Organization

A crowd of about 80 people from throughout Ohio was on hand Wednesday for the installation of Revere Local Schools’ Superintendent Randy Boroff as the 43rd president of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators.

The ceremony, held in the auditorium, included a tribute to Boroff delivered by Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel – a former student of Boroff’s and a family friend.

Boroff will spend the next year at the helm of the BASA, a 1,200-member professional service organization founded in 1969 and headquartered in Columbus. About 98 percent of Ohio superintendents belong to the BASA, which also includes assistant superintendents, directors, principals, business managers and college professors.

Serving as master of ceremonies Wednesday was Dr. R. Kirk Hamilton, BASA executive director, who also administered the oath of office to Boroff and several other regional directors and officers.

Hamilton said it’s a great honor to serve as BASA president, particularly because officers are elected by a statewide membership vote. He said Boroff is widely known and respected as “an exemplary leader” who is known for being service-oriented, student-focused and always willing to help others.

Mandel, 34, spoke of the impact Boroff had on him as a student at Beachwood High School, where Boroff was a longtime principal. Mandel credited Boroff for instilling leadership skills in students while also serving as a “compassionate but tough disciplinarian.”

“I wouldn’t be standing here right now … if it wasn’t for the strong foundation of leadership I (acquired) in high school. I attribute that to Randy,” he said. “He was turning young men and women into leaders. That’s where Randy separated himself from others working in education.”

Also paying tribute to Boroff during the ceremony were Bobbie Beshara, Richfield Village mayor, and Claudia Hower, president of the .

Hower said Boroff’s strong leadership skills, integrity, enthusiasm and his unwavering commitment to the district these past three years “have earned him loyalty and respect from the Revere team.”

During his remarks, Boroff said he is honored and humbled to have been chosen by his Ohio peers in education to lead the BASA.

“It’s a privilege to not only represent superintendents around the state, but also the Revere School District,” he said.

Boroff said Revere schools will benefit from the insights he gains as BASA president.

“I’ll be getting information about what’s happening at the state level in education and will be involved in conversations about legislative decisions – and that type of upfront information will benefit our district as we plan for the future,” he said.
