Revere Middle School Picks Up Regional Power of the Pen Win

The regional tournament was held Saturday at Kent State University.

To say last Saturday was a successful day for the Power of the Pen team would be an understatement.

In a regional tournament held at Kent State University, the seventh grade team won the first place trophy for creative writing. Team members include: Sarah Blake, who finished fourth individually; Anna Gamblin, who finished 12th individually; Danielle Kakish, Maya MacKeigan-Moore, Jocie Scott and Madison Umina, who all won an 11th place individual medal.

Danielle Kakish received a Journal Award for writing the best story for the prompt: "The gold frame is beautiful but empty. Why is there no picture in it?" Danielle's story was called A Mystery in Me.

Madison Umina’s story, A Price to Pay, written for the January district competition, was nominated Best of the Best, compared to all other stories written on that prompt across the state. Madison won a savings bond, and her story will be printed in the next volume published by Power of the Pen.

Eighth grade team members included Matt Fiedler and Victoria Deng. The team will move on to the state competition in Wooster this May. Good luck, everyone!
