Whodunnit? A summer course in forensic archaeology teaches students how to investigate crime scenes.

At a mock, double-murder crime scene in Bath Township euphemistically called the "pig dig," a group of future forensic scientists from UA learn to solve crimes by digging up clues.

The "victims" are pig carcasses, purchased from a butcher two years ago, dressed and buried in shallow graves at the Paul E. Martin Center for Field Studies at the The remains are now skeletonized.

Adolescent pigs are about the same weight as adult humans, they're not too hair and have a good deal of subcutaneous fat -- a good substitute real crime victims.

Students learn how investigators conduct themselves at crime scenes, how to collect evidence and how to excavate remains and determine the cause of death.
