Patch Debuts Education Column

Hi. My name is Craig Davison.

How are you? Great, and thanks for asking -- I’m doing well.

I realize this isn’t a conversation. It’s just words on a screen right now. But I’m trying to start one. 

I’m going to be covering the schools for fairlawn-bath.patch.com. As part of that, I’ll be here every Monday with school news and features about what’s going on in the classroom. I’ll also be contributing more throughout the week as well.

Here’s where the conversation starts. I know your kids and their education is important to you. And I know what’s in your wallet or bank account matters, in good times or bad, and I’ll be there with information on items like Revere’s ballot initiative May 3 for a new tax levy.

But I can’t be in every school, let alone every classroom. I want to hear everything from you. What’s important to you and what’s going on in your schools. Whether you want to nominate someone for our Whiz Kid column, have some news or concerns to share, I’d love to hear it. My e-mail is craigdavison@gmail.com.

I’ll listen, I’ll investigate and I’ll share what I find out. I’ve covered schools, large districts and those small enough to fit elementary, middle and high schools into one building, throughout Michigan and Indiana the past five years. I’m excited to be here, and to cover this important part of our community.

Coming up this week in schools: 

• After finishing second and outperforming 39 other schools in the Mentor Invitational, ’s Science Olympiad Team will be competing in the Akron Regional Science Olympaid this Saturday at the University of Akron (in the Goodyear Polymer Center). The team will be trying to defend its championship for the 11th time in a row.
• Parents can find out about kindergarten in the district, as well as ask questions at an information meeting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at School, 3080  Revere Rd., Richfield. Also, Revere Local Schools will be ending its second trimester on Friday, which means exams at the high school on Thursday and Friday.
• Coming up this week in are a couple of PTA meetings and the middle school science fair. The science fair is an all-day event Thursday at the school, 1531 S. Cleveland-Massillon Rd. in Copley Township. The Copley PTA meets at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, in the main conference room of Copley High School, 3807 Ridgewood Rd. in Copley Township. And Herberich Primary School’s PTA will also be meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the school, which is located at 2645 Smith Rd., Akron.
• School students from first to seventh grade will be spending the week in IOWA testing.
• Akron Montessori, 3882 Bywood Dr., Fairlawn, will be having its second open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday at the school.
