Fort Island Students Celebrate Heart Health by Jumping Rope

The Fort Island Primary School students jump their way to center stage.

The whirling sound of a jump rope twirling overhead is barely heard over jumping feet and "1, 2, 3, 4s" coming from the jumper's mouths.

This is the Jump Rope Team. The team is made up of more than 50 fourth graders and is led by teacher Kathy Casper. This is her second year leading the group at the school.

The group has been practicing its routines since September, and will take the stage tonight at the Copley vs. Cloverleaf boys basketball game halftime show.

"They get so many benefits from joining this group," Casper said. "There's a team feeling and they feel accomplished."

Later this month, Casper will set up an obstacle course in the shape of a human heart so the children can learn about blood flow and general heart health information.
