The event was held to raise money for and spread awareness of the center. According to a press release, the money raised will benefit the center's Teaching Professions program and the Wellness Committee.

The majority of the money went to the teaching professions program, Communications Specialist Cheryl Dolego said in an email. The funds will go toward field trips and a book program the students host for local elementary school students.

The Wellness Committee for staff encourages healthy living choices, Dolego said.

More than 100 runners and walkers took part, with the top male and female overall and the top three males and females in each age group in the race winning a medal. The medals handed out to winners were created by students in the center’s machine technology program, according to the press release.
