Copley High School Senior Scores in National Debate

Lear Jiang places 15th in national competition, best ever for Copley debaters.

Lear Jiang, a senior who just graduated Copley High School, finished in 15th place in the national Lincoln-Douglas debate competition last week.

Copley High School Principal Cameron M. Ryba said in email this is the best a Copley student has ever done in the national debate competition, and the best an Ohio debater has placed in recent memory.

Competition began in February, when the Copley Speech and Debate team competed at the Eastern Ohio District Speech and Debate tournament at Stow-Munroe Falls High School.  Jiang finished second in the tournament behind Hannah Borselli from Stow-Munroe Falls high school.  Both students qualified to compete at the National Forensic League’s National Tournament.
