Copley High Prom: Five Things You Need to Know

Copley High School seniors will celebrate the end of their high school career on Saturday.

Prom season is winding down but there's still room for one more. It's time for seniors to put on their dancing shoes, fancy dresses and suits and hit the town.

Copley's prom is on May 26 at the John S. Knight Center. Here are five things you need to know about the momentous occasion.

1. Prom starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m. Tickets were $50 per person or $100 per couple, and sales have already ended.

Senior class adviser Bill Rhoades said ticket prices are the same this year as they were last year and that the cost breaks even with the cost of the center's rental.

2. The theme is an enchanted evening. The colors are blue, silver and magenta.

3. Only seniors are allowed to attend, unless their date is an underclassman. Seniors can also bring students from other schools but they must have a permission slip signed by parents and the principal of that school.

4. Promenade will be held in the Copley High Auditorium at 6 p.m. This is where the prom court will be announced. After prom will be held at the High School from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.

5. Attention, seniors: Rhoades said anything that will get you kicked out of school will get you kicked out of prom.

"So, no drugs or alcohol, gentlemen have to be in a suit and tie and girls in evening apparel," Rhoades said. "What would get you thrown out of school would get you thrown out of prom."

There are no strict rules regarding dance, other than it has to be tasteful, Rhoades said.

"It's the last big event our seniors do, and it's fun," Rhoades said. "This is my third year as a senior adviser but I've helped chaperone prom for the last eight or nine years and we've never thrown anyone out."
