The only way for districts to make up for more than five calamity days, according to the law, is to extend schools day to make up for lost days or to add on to the school year.

Copley-Fairlawn’s Herberich Primary School had an additional calamity day due to a broken water main in November, and it will be made up on June 10.

Superintendent Brian Poe said the new approach of extending school days was going to keep the school session from running up against summer school.
He said the change in school times has gone “very, very well.” Phone calls were made to parents and letters were sent home to notify parents of children who may have after school activities.

Poe said that so far, there has been no problems with the change to transportation.
Revere will extend its school year one day, with the last day for students on June 9 and the last day for teachers is June 10.
