Bath Elementary Students Collect Donations for Hospital Patients

Fourth graders at Bath Elementary collected food items, toiletries and games for the patients at Akron Children's Hospital.

Before the 2011 holiday season, fourth grade teacher Michelle George contacted the Haslinger Family Pediatric Palliative Care Center at Akron Children's Hospital to find a way to give back.

She wanted to organize a project for her students where they collected items to donate to the center for patients who had to stay at the hospital for an extended period of time. So in an attempt to brighten hospital stays, her students set out collecting non-perishable food items, games and toiletries for the center's Comfort Cart.

Volunteers at the center roll the cart to the children's rooms so that families can have fun while they visit.

Haslinger Family Pediatric Palliative Care representative Marie Parker, a volunteer for the Center, visited Bath last week and accepted the donated items from the students.  The school, along with the students and their families, were thanked for their generosity to the patients and families of the Center.
