The Financial Aspect of a Cancer Diagnosis

Find ways to alleviate not only the emotional and physical burdens of a cancer diagnosis, but also the financial burdens at Stewart's Caring Place.

At Stewart’s Caring Place: Cancer Wellness Center we understand that fighting cancer can be physically, emotionally, and financially demanding, and can seem overwhelming at times. Medical bills and other financial challenges are often significant stressors for cancer patients and their families.

Cancer patients often experience an increase in expenses related to medical care. Moreover, they can be faced with the frustration of trying to manage the additional expenses with a decreased amount of monthly income. For some patients, the financial burden is apparent at diagnosis, while for others, it builds up over the course of years of treatment. A diagnosis of cancer is never easy, but it can be even more stressful when struggling to pay for costly treatments and medications.  Sadly, cancer often imposes heavy economic burdens on both the individual and their families.

Stewart’s Caring Place offers an educational workshop, Cancer, Finances and You, in which various cancer and medical-related financial topics are discussed. Whether participants have questions about co-pay, Premium Assist or 211 services, the conversation is sure to guide participants to an understanding of how to make things works while on their cancer journey.

Attending the class can help determine qualification for assistance programs such as private foundations, free pharmaceuticals, co-pay assistance programs, cancer-specific funds, and other programs that can often assist with living expenses and other concrete needs. Additionally, the class can help answer questions regarding employer related benefits (FMLA, STD, LTD), Medicare programs (supplements, savings programs, Part D coverage), or questions about medical coverage via Medicaid or Ohio’s High Risk Pool.

Stewart’s Caring Place also offers free attorney consultations for anyone touched by cancer regarding Wills, Trusts & Estates, and SSI & Disability. Call Stewart’s Caring Place at 330.836.1772 to set-up your free consultation.
