Summit County Master Gardener Tour of Gardens Highlights Stewart's Caring Place's Butterfly Garden

Butterfly Garden at Stewart's Caring Place: Cancer Wellness Center is chosen for Tour of Gardens

Butterfly Garden has been chosen for the 12th Annual Master Gardeners of Summit County Tour of Gardens. The tour is June 23 from 9a.m. to 4p.m. and will be held rain or shine.

The Butterfly Garden at Stewart’s Caring Place is a new addition to the facility and offers individuals and families touched by cancer a peaceful place to meditate and reflect. The garden was added in 2011 by a generous donor in memory of his wife, an avid gardener.

New classes including Horticultural Therapy 101, Nature’s Inspiration, and Horticultural Therapy: Tree Stories will take place in the garden this spring and summer, calling on the restorative and healing properties of nature. Occasional exercise classes also occur in the garden.

“We’re really excited to be offering classes in the garden,” said Services and Resources Coordinator Ellen Sheehan. “Fresh air, nature, and friendship are a wonderful combination for our participants.”

The Butterfly Garden is also a place for families to remember a loved one or celebrate the life of a survivor, and for local businesses to show their support of Stewart’s through its paver fundraiser. Bricks that pave the garden path are available to be engraved and create a lasting memory in the garden. Bricks ordered by June 4 will be placed prior to the garden tour. To purchase a paver, visit StewartsCaringPlace.org or call 330.836.1772.

Tickets for the Tour of Gardens are on sale for $15 and are available at Donzell’s Flower and Garden Center in Akron, Graf Growers Garden Center in Copley Township and Suncrest Gardens in Boston Township. In addition, tickets may be ordered by sending a check and self-addressed, stamped envelope to MG Tour of Gardens, c/o P.O. Box 707, Bath, OH 44210.

This is a self-guided tour.  Please plan to carpool if possible. This year’s tour will require walking distances to get to the gardens and is not handicapped accessible. Strollers and dogs are not permitted, if children attend, they must have a ticket. For additional information, call 234.525.7034.
