Sonatas for Stewart's: A Recital In Honor of Elizabeth Webber

Violin recital organized by local graduate in honor of her former teacher who is battling breast cancer.

Growing up did you have a special teacher? The mentor who inspired you, believed in you, and encouraged you to work hard to achieve your dreams? That experience sticks with you, helps form the person you become. What if you could give back, do something meaningful for that teacher?

On Friday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m., Medina native Julia Erhard will travel from Boston to pay tribute to her special teacher, retiree Elizabeth Webber, who is currently battling breast cancer.

Erhard is a professional violinist and has organized a recital, "Sonatas for Stewart’s," at the Medina High School Performing Arts Center in which she will honor Webber while collecting donations for Stewart’s Caring Place: Cancer Wellness Center.

When Erhard learned of her former teacher’s diagnosis, she quickly reconnected with Webber, providing encouraging words and support.

"She was such an inspiring teacher to me in high school, I wanted to do something to make her life better," said Erhard.

"Julia approached me, wanting to help in some way. She said 'I can’t run in a marathon, but I want to do something,'" explained Webber. The recital was Erhard’s idea, and she’s been planning it from Boston.

“I think Julia’s a hero for doing this,” said Webber.

Erhard wanted to collect donations in her teacher’s honor. Webber encouraged her to give the proceeds from the event to a local charity, Stewart’s Caring Place, a cancer wellness center in which she has turned to for support throughout her cancer treatment.

Webber and her husband take advantage of the many services Stewart’s offers, including the gentle strength training class, yoga, tapping, the breast cancer support group, and the wig room.

Donations are being accepted prior to the event at StewartsCaringPlace.org. For more information on the event, please contact Stewart's Caring Place at 330-836-1772.
