Green High School annual Kick for the Cure!

Annual Kick for the Cure event for Green High School's soccer teams benefits Stewart's Caring Place this year!

Mark your calendars for the Green High School boys and girls varsity and jv soccer teams Kick for the Cure event against North Canton Hoover. This year’s event will be held on Sept. 29 at Green Memorial Stadium, located at 1737 Steese Road in Uniontown. Proceeds from the event will benefit Stewart’s Caring Place: Cancer Wellness Center and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Each year the event continues to grow in size and community involvement for both participating soccer teams. The day’s events include the jv boys and girls soccer games beginning at 1pm, followed by league scrimmages, and concluding with the varsity girls game at 5pm, and the varsity boys game at 7pm.

Other family-friendly activities include 50/50 raffles, prize drawings, basket raffles, live music, performances by the Green High School majorettes and dance team, carnival games, a dunk tank and face painting!

The inaugural event, held in 2007, was in honor of Shawn Basone, wife of Green Soccer coach, Jeff Basone. Shawn passed away after her long battle with cancer in 2008, but the event continues each year, honoring Shawn and all community members touched by cancer.

Each year a local charity, along with nationally recognized organizations, are selected to receive money raised from the fundraiser. To date, the event has raised more than $38,000! Last year, donations were made to Akron Children's Hospital (Cancer Division), Susan G. Komen Foundation, and the American Cancer Society.
