Week in Review: a Burglary, a Scavenger Hunt, a Community Garden

Bath trustees agree to revenue-sharing agreement with Summit County.

A burglary suspect was apprehended in the early morning of June 19, University of Akron led a group on a Stream Scavenger Hunt and the Fairlawn community garden proves to be hard work. A roundup of some of last week's news in Fairlawn and Bath Township: 

• Police were called early Sunday by an alarm to a Bath home and found a smashed sliding door in the back of the house. Police noticed a suspicious car parked nearby and apprehended a suspect on Pinepoint Drive near the scene as well. Richard T. Price is charged with receiving stolen property and faces other pending charges, Bath police said. 

• The University of Akron biology department introduced a group of children (and some adults as well) to nature at the Bath Nature Preserve  and kept cool in the summer heat at the same time with a Stream Scavenger Hunt.

• This is what you call a bad day: A woman who reported to Fairlawn police that her Nissan Titan pickup had been stolen June 14 was found by police to have an outstanding warrant for failure to complete community service for a theft charge through the Akron Police Department. Brandie M. Nichols was arrested and processed by Fairlawn and Akron police, then released. 

• Sarah Vradenburg, aka The Green Goddess, visited Fairlawn's new community garden and saw how much work the land needed to yield a successful crop. The soil had been laying fallow for most of the last two decades or so and had gotten compacted.

Bath Township trustees agreed to join a memorandum of understanding with Summit County and other surrounding communities on a tax revenue sharing agreement. Administrator William Snow said the agreement would have minimal impact on Bath's revenue because only a small portion of Bath's revenue is based on income tax.
