Township Takes Bath on Web Site -- Temporarily

Township moved internet presence to another server to allow for Internet payments; some residents saw a site selling bath products instead.

If you visited Bath Township's web site for news on township Trustees, Fire or Police on Saturday (Oct. 1) you were probably surprised to see an internet store selling bath products.

The problem is temporary, according to Township Administrator William Snow, and limited to those who use Time Warner as their Internet service provider. "I'm told it should be resolved within 24-hours," Snow said. "We needed to move our township Web site to a secure server so that we could take trash payments on-line. Some servers have redirected to the new site, but Time Warner is taking a little more time."

In the interim, Snow has been fielding calls from Bath Township residents who went searching for on-line information on township events and instead found a photo of a woman relaxing in a bubble-filled tub. "I've gotten about a million calls," he said late Saturday evening.

Snow is good-natured about the mix-up and ultimately happy about the change. "I'm excited about it. We have about 2,500 trash customers who are pretty tired of writing checks."

A Web search on Saturday indicated that a company in Queensland, Australia occupied the www.bathtownship.org address on the Time Warner server.
