Summit County Hosts Second Annual Adopt-a-Thon

Dogs and cats are available for adoption for $10, plus county dog license.

The Summit County Division of Animal Control will opens its doors from 10 am to 3 p.m. next Saturday (Nov. 5) for the agency's second annual adoption event.

Last year's event found new homes for 197 animals. Organizers also hope the event draws residents to tour the county's $2.96 million, 19,494 square-foot facility. Built in 2010, it includes an intake area, an adoption zone, a veterinary clinic, quarantine quarters and administrative office space.

"Citizens who attend this special event will be able to tour the facility, meet with staff members and learn more about our animal adoption services," County Executive Russ Pry said in a news release. "We are proud of the work we do and would like nothing more than for citizens to turn to us for their pet adoption needs."

Dogs and cats will be made available for adoption for $10 per animal (regularly $90 per dog, $60 per cat). The animals will be fully vetted (blood work, flea treatments, intestinal de-worming, spay/neuter and vaccinations) and ready to be taken home that day. Citizens who adopt a canine will be required to purchase a Summit County Dog License for $14.

Call the division of animal control at  330-643-2845 for more information. Photos of adoptable animals are available on the web site.
