CANCELED: Shiawassee McDonald's Traffic Study Complete, Will Be Presented Thursday

The franchise owner will present the traffic study for a proposed McDonald's at the corner of Shiawassee Avenue and West Market Street.

STORY UPDATED AT 9:40 a.m. THURSDAY: This meeting has been canceled, according to a clerk at Fairlawn City Hall.

The Fairlawn Planning Commission will meet at 5:30 tonight to discuss the traffic study for a proposed McDonald's at the intersection of Shiawassee Avenue and West Market Street.

The project, which drew complaints from nearby residents, has been awarded variances from the Board of Zoning Appeals.

But the developers, as promised, are looking at ways to improve traffic flow in the area before going any further.

People who live behind the proposed site have attended several meetings to speak against the McDonald's, saying it will bring more traffic, litter and crime to the area.

"We do not generate traffic," franchise owner John Blickle told a crowd at a previous informational meeting. "We live off the existing (passing) traffic."

The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. tonight in Council Chambers.
