Rothrock Road To Close at Sawgrass April 10 (Poll)

Rothrock Road at Sawgrass Drive will be blocked with a concrete barrier on April 10.

Fairlawn officials met with Copley Township heads on Wednesday to announce a concrete barrier would block Rothrock Road at Sawgrass Drive beginning April 10, reports the Akron Beacon Journal.

This has been a when Walmart announced it wanted to move into Copley Township. Mayor William Roth made the decision to close the road after Walmart announced it wanted to build a 300,000-square foot complex that would include a super center with groceries and a Sam's Club with a gas station.

Rothrock Road has already been closed by Roth for through traffic, but not completely walled off, like these barriers will make it. Emergency access to that area will now be at the intersection of Rothrock and Rosemont Boulevard, the Beacon reports.

Copley Township officials called the barrier "vindictive," the Beacon said, and Copley Fire Chief Michael Benson urged Roth, "Please, I ask you, don't do it. Please, don't do it."

The barrier will add one minute to emergency vehicle response time.
