Potholes and Cracks Abound But Relief is Coming

Summit County Engineer Alan Brubaker announced plans Monday to fix several Bath Township roads.

Even though we've had a pretty mild winter, the freezes and thaws have still had an effect on Bath Township roads. From the string of potholes along Ghent Road to the huge hole at the intersection of Cleveland-Massillon and Ghent, it's pretty rough out there.

At Monday's meeting, Summit County Engineer Alan Brubaker assured township officials that help is on the way.

• Resurface Cleveland-Massillon Road from state Route 18 to Springside Drive

• Resurface Cleveland-Massillon Road from Ghent Road to Ira Road (may not be completed until 2013)

Federal funds will pay for 80 percent of these three projects and the county has to find a way to fund the other 20 percent, Brubaker said. This is a $1.6 million project and the county's share is $500,000.

Brubaker added that he tries to have pavement cracks on county roads fixed as soon as they are spotted. If the crack is untreated, water that seeps in causes the pavement to deteriorate, he said.

County roads are maintained by Summit County only, said Township Administrator Bill Snow. The county is responsible for the following roads:

• Revere Road

• Everett Road

• Cleveland-Massillon Road

• Ghent Road

• Hametown Road

• Medina Line Road

• Ira Road

• Shade Road

• Martin Road

• Bath Road

• Yellow Creek Road

• Shaw Road

• Granger Road

• Crystal Lake Road

• Sourek Road

• Springside Drive
