Panhandling Legislation Discussed Once More Before Passage

Fairlawn City Council Committee of the Whole meets tonight at 6 p.m.

Before new panhandling legislation is voted in, council will discuss it one more time at tonight's committee of the whole meeting.

The would require panhandlers to register with the city and dictates where and when they can panhandle.

The idea of regulating panhandlers came after the mayor and police chief received calls from residents saying they didn't feel safe at stoplights with the panhandlers around. There have been no instances where panhandlers have been arrested because of being aggressive, said police Chief Kenneth Walsh.
