Ghent, Martadale Road Bridge Projects Begin March 5

The bridges will be closed, or have traffic reduced for reconstruction.

Starting March 5, the Ohio Department of Transportation will close the Martadale Road bridge, and reduce traffic to two lanes on the Ghent Road bridge.

Both bridges cross Interstate 77 in Bath Township.

Township Administrator William Snow said he didn't know how long the bridges would be under construction, but township Trustee James Nelson said the contractors signed an agreement to have both jobs finished in 60 days.

There will be no detours for the Ghent bridge construction and Snow expects more information about both projects to come from the state on Friday. Check back for more details.

These are the first two bridges to undergo reconstruction this year. There are seven total, said Snow. Township officials are currently working with Richfield officials and the Summit County Engineer to find funding to widen the Everett Road bridge, which leads to Revere High. Snow fears that when reconstruction is completed, there won't be space for pedestrians to cross that bridge safely. Widening it before reconstruction would solve that problem.
