FLOOD UPDATE: Fairlawn Soaked in Standing Water

The flood warning in Summit County has been extended until 5 p.m.

Residents along Schocalog Creek on Trunko, Bancroft roads and Brunsdorph Drive found their back yards turned in to lakes this morning by more than five inches of rain that fell within 90 minutes in Fairlawn early this morning. The Summit County Department of Environmental Services was also called to assist with pumping away storm sewer overflow.

The Fairlawn Service Department deployed all six pumps at 4:30 a.m. and was still working at noon to clear standing water in basements and from roads. The evacuated families in Rosemont Ridge who could not get out of their flodded driveways and disconnected gas service in wet basements where the water level was high enough to be dangerous.

According to service Director John Sellars all city streets are open and passable and there have been no injuries.
