First Half of 2011 Real Estate Tax Due Friday

Summit County taxpayers must turn in their dues by Friday.

The first half of Summit County residents' Real Estate tax is due Friday, according to Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen Scalise.

Homeowners who are not able to pay the first half can enroll in a tax installment program and make monthly payments. To apply, taxes have to be current and the deadline to sign up is Feb. 18. Call 330-643-2678 for more information.

Under the Military Reserves Plan, military reservists on active duty do not have to pay real estate taxes on owner occupied property until they return from duty. Families interested in enrolling in this program should call 330-643-2641.

You taxes can be paid at the Summit County Fiscal office on the third floor of the Ohio Building in Akron, 175 S. Main St. Office hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Taxes can also be paid through our Regional Tax Collection System, which is a list of participating banks that can be found on the front of the tax bill; make checks payable to the institution.

Residents can also pay a tax bill with a credit card or e-check online or by phone. Payments are processed by Official Payments Corporation, which charges a service fee. To pay by phone, call 1-800-272-9829. Follow the instructions on the recorded message. You will need to have your tax bill and the jurisdiction code for Summit County, which is 4596.

Tax payments can be mailed.  Those payments must be U.S. postmarked by February 17, 2012 to avoid the statutory penalty for late payment.
