Giant Eagle is in the home stretch of getting a GetGo gas station built at the corner of West Market Street and Trunko Road. Fairlawn City Council has set the gears in motion to pass a development agreement should Planning Commission accept Giant Eagle's final site plan Thursday.
Giant Eagle plans to build a $2.2 million gas station that will include six pumps and a convenience store. Giant Eagle has agreed to pay for more than half the cost of . The signal at Trunko will also be updated to include a left-turn arrow.
Deputy Service Director Ernie Staten said the goal is to have the road widening project finished before school starts in August. He wants construction to start the week after July 4 and be done by Aug. 20.
A portion of Trunko Road will be closed for 45 days, and the detour will use Shelly Lynn and Morewood roads to get drivers back to West Market, Staten said.
"It's a big push," Staten said. "But everyone here knows (Liberta Construction) does a good job. They've done other projects in the city and they were the only bidder because it's so late in the season."
