The at its Monday night meeting approved measures that will allow A. Schulman to keep its headquarters in Fairlawn, moving from its current address at 3550 W. Market St. to land at the northeast corner of South Cleveland-Massillon Road and Ridgewood Road
A land deal involving , Landridge Development LLC and the city of Fairlawn will develop new 34,000-square-foot world headquarters for A. Schulman on 6.4 acres of land. The seller is Community Development Corporation of Fairlawn. In the $540,000 deal, Schulman will agree to a lease from Landridge of at least 20 years.
Shulman CEO and Chairman Joseph Gingo told the council he was glad his company and the city could work out a deal to keep the headquarters in Fairlawn. The company had simply outgrown its Market Street headquarters, Gingo said.
“I want to thank the city of Fairlawn for all the cooperation we received in this necessary move,” Gingo said.
Because the council only meets once in July, it had a busy agenda Monday evening. In addition to the Schulman-Landridge land deal, the council:
• Passed a resolution supporting the Summit Food Policy Coalition’s Summit County Food Charter
• Passed two companion resolutions supporting the creation of the Summit County Land Reutilization Corporation and application for the Ohio attorney general’s Moving Ohio Forward Grant Program
• Passed an ordinance authorizing the city to join Norton and Copley and Bath townships in leasing P25 radio tower equipment with assistance from FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security.
• Passed a resolution waiving and suspending the annual fee for the and recycling facility until July 31, 2013.
• Passed a resolution declaring Aug. 11 as Household Hazardous Waste Day. The city will accept household wastes including latex paint, said Services Director Ernie Staten.
Several ordinances relating to the land deal were voted on after the council agreed to waive the usual three-reading rule; some of these were ordinances that were re-introduced because the original versions had expired.
All ordinances and resolutions were passed by 6-0 votes, with City Councilwoman Barbara Potts absent.
Other ordinances were sent to committee, including:
• An ordinance authorizing to sign the Community Improvement Corporation’s agreement and plan of industrial, commercial distribution and research development.
• Ordinances for amending or supplementing the residential housing assistance board of Fairlawn ordinances.
• An ordinance accepting the bid from Mulch Makers of Ohio to collect leaves from Fairlawn residents. Mulch Makers has been the only service to submit a bid on the annual job this year.
• An ordinance rezoning 4080 Embassy Parkway to B-3 Business District for the construction of a hotel.
The next meeting, with the committee of the whole, will be 6 p.m. Aug. 6.
